A North Shore homeowner seeks to sell and move to the city. Another sets out to pull up stakes in Chicago and relocate to, say, Winnetka.

The aunt and niece meet each Monday morning to map out their busy week. Among the items on a typical Annie/Maddie checklist: inventory for potential clients; showing schedules; setups for staging and virtual staging; adding to their social media presence; ways to enhance email and print marketing for their listings; identifying market trends, and; anticipating the next steps for their clients to ensure they’re informed and ready for action.

Neither Annie nor Maddie cowered at any point during pandemic-laden 2020. Annie—a University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate who worked in insurance and risk management before entering the field of real estate and raised her five kids on the North Shore—embraced the challenges associated with COVID-19, recognizing them as golden opportunities to “redefine and refine.” Annie notes that brokers had no choice but to advance technically and emotionally with a focus on safety. “It’ll be interesting to see,” Maddie says, “how brokers continue to adapt to these times.”
