After working for a private landscape company, Scott Byron formed his own firm in 1983 to design, install, and maintain unique residential gardens in the Chicago area. More clients are showing interest in sustainable landscape design now, too. “Some of these designs require conservation through water management, planting drought-tolerant trees and perennials, and using passive solar landscape designs that maximize sun exposure in the winter and shade in the summer,” Byron says. “We have also been designing more green roofs for energy conservation, and setting aside more space for vegetative gardens.” You can see Scott Byron work at Chicago’s lakefront estates, small country homes and on rooftops in the city. “Each project is different, and presents a unique set of challenges,” Byron says.
