In its close to eight decades in business, the family-run Drapery Connection has built a strong reputation and devoted client base throughout the Chicago suburbs. The fourth-generation window fashion company has maintained that reputation and continued to grow because of its commitment to a single important business objective—building a strong family business that puts client satisfaction first.
And last November, the company received one of the highest area recognitions for a company of its kind. It was honored with the Illinois Family Business of the Year Award, presented by the Family Business Center at Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business. The award is given annually to companies that “don’t sacrifice family for business.” Instead, they use family to fuel success by tapping into the values and resources of family to inspire business innovation.
“To be successful, your education never ends,” says CEO Carl Movrich. Drapery Connection has always stayed on top of technology and trends with a staff of certified experts who can help clients create custom draperies, shutters, bedding, blinds, and shades, as well as motorized and automated window treatments. Their services also include in-home consultations, fabric selection, and style and design suggestions.
“The knowledge and experience of our designers, staff, and management team, and always being one step ahead of the design trends, makes us different,” Movrich adds.
In 2000, Movrich co-founded the International Window Covering Exchange Group to share innovative thinking and best practices among members. He believes in helping to drive the industry forward and continues to push for innovative products, including ones that are more eco-friendly and child-safe.
There isn’t one key aesthetic to the work Drapery Connection does except that it’s all meticulously designed with every detail taken into consideration. Each new client project gets the focused attention and detailed customer service that only a company like Drapery Connection with 78 years of experience can offer.
“You will be dealing with certified specialists in interior design, motorization and automation, and energy management that will diagnose and collaborate with you for a creative solution for your windows,” Movrich says.
At Drapery Connection, clients get to work with a team of designers versus an individual designer—and the extra design assistance comes at no additional cost. This gives the client lots of creative possibilities coming from a variety of design minds that might help fit a certain decor and lifestyle.
“Every drapery window treatment is indulged with detail that you will cherish and love,” Movrich says.
The Movrich family has always believed that the strength of a family business comes from dedicated family members who love their jobs but also come with varied perspectives and areas of expertise to drive the business forward and provide clients with something new and different. And that’s part of what made Drapery Connection a standout to receive the Illinois Family Business of the Year Award.
Drapery Connection’s showroom (open by appointment only) is located at 5101 Chase Avenue in Downers Grove, 630-323-4845, draperyconnection.com.
