Celeste Robbins is the Founder and Principal of Robbins Architecture, an award-winning residential design firm on the North Shore. A graduate of Cornell University, Robbins started her practice more than 25 years ago. Her work has become known for its modern livability, warmth, and timeless beauty. While Robbins Architecture has grown to include a talented team with commissions across the United States, Robbins remains personally involved with each project—a hallmark of her passion for design and dedication to her clients.
Why do you love what you do? Home has great meaning to me. It provides a sanctuary and a retreat, and each one is as unique as the family within. Creating a home for others is an honor.
What sets you apart from your competition? Rather than approach a project with a strict viewpoint or formula, each project is a unique artistic expression with a soft warmth and livability. My design approach comes from a foundation of timeless modern principles that weaves a connection to the site and nature into the home.
Past trend you’d like to see return? I’d love to see a return of natural materials—allowing things to age and appreciating the beauty of a well-worn material.
Trends on the horizon? Anything with authenticity and soul. People want to see layered spaces that tell you something about who they are and where they’ve been.
Best advice you’ve given? “Surround yourself with people who share your passion.”
Where do you draw inspiration from? I love to look to the classics in art and architecture for inspiration, from Michelangelo to Mies van der Rohe. I feel that it’s important to look and really “see” with the intent to inspire.
