Amy Erb created the Divvy House design firm so that she could be a working mom while creating a professional life that blended her architectural talents and business sense. A member of ASID since 2003, Erb graduated from Harrington Institute of Interior Design as valedictorian. Her Divvy House is focused on finding creative solutions that are as functional as they are stylish.
Why do you love what you do? I started this business 19 years ago so that I could help solve a client’s space problem and do more than design just another pretty space. I get a tremendous amount of satisfaction when my clients tell me how “in love” they are with their custom-tailored spaces.
What sets you apart from your competition? We are client, not project, driven. Our design solutions are not only gorgeous but an intimate projection of who our clients are. No one project is ever the same.
Trends on the horizon? I love that fluid design duality is trending and people are designing for the family’s needs and not what society tells them they should do. I am amazed by my brave millennial clients, who are replacing their dining rooms with a kids hangout/den.
Best advice ever given to you? Listen to learn not to win.
Where do you draw inspiration from? It used to be travel … but today I’ve been getting a lot of inspiration from new lines at the Merchandise Mart and travel blogs.
