King’s Landscape Design has beautified spaces from the Federal Bureau of Investigations building in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, through Illinois, and all the way over to New Buffalo, Michigan. But Hinsdale will always be home. “We’ve been in the community since 1959. My parents recently moved into a historic home on Garfield Avenue. They planted two thousand tulips as a sort of grand entrance into town,” says Adam King, Director of Sales and leader of the company’s new initiative, King’s Cares.
“King’s Cares is our way of connecting with the community. I’ve joined the Board of Directors of the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce. We’re sponsoring a Trolley for the Hinsdale Kitchen Walk. We’re a Wellness House Bronze sponsor and nine employees are participating in the Walk for Wellness House,” King says of the concerted effort to put money back into the community.
These good works complement long-standing charitable commitments like the MidAmerica Service Dogs’ Foundation (MSDF) that Chief Financial Officer Noel King founded around 20 years ago. MSDF provides service dogs to children and adults with mobility disabilities completely free of charge. “We’ve placed about 40 dogs with people over the years,” King says, explaining, “Every seven years a new dog rotates in to take on the service role and the older dog becomes a pet.”
The Foundation operates out of The Community House. As a way of showing gratitude to the organization for always being welcoming and often allowing the group extra time for training sessions and holidays parties, Adam asked how could King’s support The Holiday Ball. “We became the glow stick sponsor, which was great, but we wanted to do more. We’ve taken over maintenance services, which is just a joy for me. I love the Community House. I loved playing Jodie Harrison Basketball there,” he says.
With 100 employees busy all over the Midwest, King’s is more committed than ever to making outdoor living easy and beautiful for their customers. Whatever the trend is, be it garden pavilions or plantings that dazzle, this full service team makes it easy to entertain, relax, and enjoy extraordinary outdoor spaces. “Our clients never have to look for an irrigation person or find a carpenter. We’ve built relationships and we’re ready to make every backyard an oasis,” he says, adding, “Working with a true local company means you’ve always got a guy. We’re going to answer the phone; it’s not a call center. We’re going to get to know you, your property, and your needs.”
At the end of its first year, the King’s Cares initiative has achieved a great deal of good, and one gets the feeling that this is just the beginning of big things for this hometown force for good. “We wouldn’t be anything without our original home base, which is Hinsdale. We’re here for the community and because of them,” King says.
