Drs. Daniel Briggs and Ellen Kroin exemplify dedication to improving lives through innovative, patient-centered care at Northwestern Medicine. Specializing in foot and ankle care, Dr. Briggs discovered his passion for orthopaedics after witnessing life-changing surgery. “A family friend was hosting a child from El Salvador recovering from surgery to correct deformities in her legs, and I thought how amazing it would feel to restore a person’s function so dramatically,” he says. Fulfilling his passion, he is a leader in his field. “Orthopaedics continues to become increasingly subspecialized and practicing in a specific area allows me to provide the best care possible in the types of problems and conditions I treat,” he says. Dr. Kroin is a dedicated, skilled hand surgeon, who treats patients of all ages. She values collaboration with families to create personalized treatment plans. “Family means everything to me and I strive to include my patients and their families in the decision-making process,” she says. Passionate about restoring hand function, especially with the increase in hand pain with the rise of smartphone use, she says, “Patients are often severely disrupted while coping with a hand issue, and I am driven by seeing my patients’ relief and joy upon recovery—it’s everything to me.”
