Lake Forest’s AMI VORA treasures family and Indian culture. Raised in a traditional Indian household with aunts, uncles, and cousins under the same roof, she has cultivated an appreciation for a strong family bond. After receiving a degree in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University, Vora spent the next 22 years at Abbott Laboratories in various roles. She and her Orthopedic Surgeon husband have raised their three girls on the North Shore instilling in them a love of Indian culture and a strong work ethic. “I am reading A Woman is No Man: A Novel by Etaf Rum. It shares the experiences of multiple women from a Palestinian family who emotionally struggle to balance their appreciation for freedom in the United States while still following their cultural traditions. I enjoy fiction novels about different cultures from the perspective of a strong female lead. It piques my interest to learn more and possibly travel to the places I read about.”

“When with the family, the kids are in control which means modern hip hop. But in the rare moment alone, I always listen to old school ‘90s hip hop (Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, Puff Daddy, and The Notorious B.I.G). It always puts me in a happy mood and makes me want to dance like no one is watching.”

“Lake County Forest Preserves and Forest Preserves of Cook County … during the pandemic, my family and I have found a renewed appreciation for all of the beautiful nature that is in our incredible communities. We enjoyed hiking, biking, and discovering all of the beaches, trails, woods, and savannahs in our backyard. A few of our favorites are the Fort Sheridan, Cuba Marsh, and Skokie Lagoons.”
