CULINARY QUEEN

SALLIE SCIMECA LOBUE, a first-generation Italian- American from suburban Chicago, weaves her vibrant heritage into her family and businesses. After her first child, she launched ZaZa’s Tavola Italiana in Barrington, blending her passion for Italian cuisine and family. As her family grew, so did her business with her second restaurant, 750 Cucina Rustica, in Cary. LoBue, a breast cancer survivor, celebrates her life and roots by merging her passion for food with her love of family.

Most rewarding part of what you do? What I like most about the restaurant business is that I have the privilege of providing a space for people to celebrate their accomplishments, unwind after work, and gather with friends. But the most rewarding part is providing an intimate space for their special occasions like weddings, showers, and gatherings for celebrations of life. I feel proud when I hear how much people enjoy our place or a particular menu item they love. Our restaurants have the best customers, and the most rewarding part is seeing them return over and over, and share our restaurant with their friends.

Powerful woman you admire the most? The women I admire most are all around me. They stay positive, show their vulnerabilities, and remain grounded no matter what. I admire moms who manage multiple schedules, run households, and multitask all day, especially those who also lead businesses and impact their communities. I value women who see themselves as less than perfect and aren’t afraid to show it. They’re “real” and true to themselves, unafraid to show their weaknesses and talk about their struggles, turning it all into fuel for their success. These women, who overcome challenges and balance it all, inspire me the most.
