DR. SUSAN BLAIR is a dual-trained and board-certified specialist in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, a distinction held by less than 1 percent of dentists. She co-owns Hinsdale Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry with her husband, Dr. Nick Riccio, a board-certified orthodontist. They are raising their two sons, 7-year-old Massimo, and 1-year-old Santino in Hinsdale. Dr. Blair also owns Bloom Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, in Lombard. Her energetic personality and love for kids inspired her to pursue her profession.
What excites you most about the future of your industry? An increased awareness about the importance of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics in growing children. Quality treatment doesn’t just align teeth—it influences breathing, function, and long-term well-being.
What conversations are you passionate about bringing to the table? Orthodontics is often assumed to be purely cosmetic and about having straight teeth, but it’s so much more and can truly impact one’s quality of life.
How do you give back to your community or industry? Being an avid lover of animals has committed me to being involved with animal rescue throughout my life. I support several organizations and strive to educate people about how many great pets need homes. We also foster for Hinsdale Humane Society.
How do you maintain balance between your professional and personal life? Separating work and play—and always making time for play! Having hobbies outside of my profession brings me balance. My friendships with other strong women also give me perspective on being a working mom and business owner.
How do you define confidence—and how have you built it? Trusting your instincts and not being afraid to change things. I’m a quick decision maker with good intuition and have learned not to waste time dwelling on the past.
What legacy do you hope to leave behind? That I loved and took care of my family, made a difference in my patients’ lives … and that I helped a lot of animals.
