What actress would play you in a movie? Oprah. I love to ask questions and learn about what makes people tick. I think I learned that from years of watching her after school as a kid. We’re both empaths.
Who from history would you want to travel with? I would love to teleport to 1971 Laurel Canyon and be a rock-and-roll groupie.
Where do you look for inspiration? Right now, women business owners. As a new owner of my own real estate business, I look to the amazing women around me who have paved the way. It’s hard to put yourself out there and take chances, but watching other women succeed gives me courage.
Favorite book? My favorite book genre is women in despair. My all-time favorite book is What Remains by Carole Radziwill. It’s the true story of JFK Jr.’s fatal plane crash and his friendship with his cousin. This book is the ultimate tragedy.
Most beloved cookbook? Anything by Ina Garten … she’s so good to Jeffery … he’s got it made.
Best dinner party hack? My Italian mother taught me how to cook. I make a mean pasta. You can’t put the noodles and the sauce together too early or it doesn’t quite work. My party trick is to always use two kinds of shaped pasta, like a caviatappi and an orichette. Just look out … I make a huge mess.
What’s in your bag right now? I’m like Mary Poppins, I could pull out a lamp. My purse is always filled to the brim and I keep about four spares in my car and they are all filled, whatever you need—I got it. I always have Life Savers wintergreen mints, stationery to drop a quick note to a client or friend, a measuring tape just in case you need room specs, a moleskin notebook because if I don’t write it down, I don’t get it done, and the best $25 mascara ever from Barrington’s Blue Mercury house brand, Eclipse Volumizing & Curling Mascara.
KATE LOVES
Gadget Garlic press Scent The brand TRAPP makes a scented candle called No. 13, Bob’s Flower Shoppe. I carry them in my car to give to clients and friends. Barrington spot Women-owned businesses are my go-to’s; Angelina, Nékter Juice Bar, Kate Marker Home, and G&G’s Boutique are all owned by local Barrington-area women, and I honestly can’t get enough. Hostess gift to receive If you know me, I love anything radical, or different. I’m so grateful when people I love understand that and embrace it. Gift to give As a realtor, one of my favorite things to do is give awesome closing gifts. Recently, I’ve gotten a little creative and gifted a Solo Stove or an Ooni Pizza Oven. And I always add a little flavor with an accessory or card from Social Design Club on Cook Street.
