JESSE SCHIRMANG began her 12-year fitness career at PURE Yoga NYC’s training program, where she studied to teach yoga. “I eventually made my way over to the barre scene and absolutely fell in love with all it had to offer,” says Schirmang, explaining that in 2022, she became the owner of SALT Fitness North Shore, a studio she began teaching at eight years ago. “SALT offers clients the opportunity to strengthen both mind and body while enjoying a fabulous community of like-minded individuals.” She is grateful for the opportunity to run SALT and enjoys guiding “some truly awesome clients” towards being the best version of themselves. In addition to teaching and running the business, Schirmang and her husband have four children ranging in ages from 4 to 14.
Most rewarding part of what you do? Providing a space where people can come to find strength and confidence in their own skin. I think what we see on social media and a lot in the fitness world especially is the idea of a “perfect body.” At SALT there is no “perfect” but instead an amazing version of you that looks different for everyone, but is equally as beautiful.
How should women support other women? By lifting those around you up! The North Shore is a small community that is rich in strong, successful women and as one of four girls, I have been able to experience a smaller version of that amazing community within my own family as well. While it is a definite cliche, we are stronger together and I see that every day at work, within my extended family, socially, and at home.
Definition of success? Finding purpose and joy in your everyday life, which I think is a constantly evolving bar.
