Community Builders

HEATHER HEHMAN and EMILY SPECTRE, co-founders of Efficiency Marketing & Publicity, knew they’d make a great team when together they recreated the Friends of the Wilmette Library to become a successful community endeavor. With her experience working with national and multinational corporations at several large advertising agencies in Chicago, Hehman discovered through her work with local businesses that the owners were passionate, professional, and cared deeply—not just about their business—but also the community. As a journalist writing about local businesses, nonprofits and other North Shore events, Spectre realized how much they are a fabric of the North Shore community. “When we unexpectedly ran into each other, we discovered our shared vision and decided to create Efficiency Marketing to help local businesses grow and thrive through strategic marketing,” Spectre says. “We are always trying to build community on the North Shore”. The dynamic duo says their role model is Sara Blakely, founder and CEO of Spanx. “She built Spanx into a billion-dollar brand through her own tenacity to do whatever it took to be successful,” says Hehman. “Emily and I are creative thinkers who execute our ideas pragmatically, always working with clients on individual solutions. We treat each brand as if it’s our own.”
