On October 18th, Janel Daley and Charlie Gruber hosted an event in their home in support of Communities In Schools (CIS) of Chicago. CIS of Chicago serves Chicago public school students, surrounding students with a community of support to empower them to stay in school and achieve in life. The event brought together local philanthropists and corporate leaders to meet CIS’ founder and chairman, Bill Milliken. Bill’s activism began in the 1960s and led him to search for a comprehensive approach to helping young people. Jane Mentzinger, CEO of CIS of Chicago, and Bill reflected on how the model Bill created has positioned CIS of Chicago as a leading nonprofit organization challenging education and resource inequities and making a significant difference in the lives of young people. This year, CIS of Chicago is partnering with 238 Chicago Public Schools, and their work will positively impact more than 78,000 students. cisofchicago.org
