Jewelry designer JEAN BASSE believes that a piece of fine jewelry should have the transformative power of uplifting and elevating one’s personal style and that one should be happy and confident while wearing pieces they love. Each of Basse’s pieces is a timeless statement created to empower women to be confident in their own skin. Her brand encompasses a classic base with a blend of modern. Transitional yet distinctive, every piece is hand-crafted for longevity. As Basse meticulously uses 14 karat yellow gold, precious and semi-precious gemstones, and high-quality diamonds throughout her collections, her pieces radiate an effortless everyday style that can be passed down for generations. Here is how this designer stays on-trend.
ON HER MOBILE
“During the outbreak of COVID-19, I became introspective and decided to take more time for myself while exploring wider interests. The internet allowed me to enroll in a host of online classes ranging from photography, design, and meditation to cooking. These themes opened some new doors. I love creating, learning, and exploring new skills, or listening to stories that inspire. I dove into these themes an met interesting people I never would have crossed paths with otherwise and that to me is exciting. Enriching yourself through challenges, new projects, and ideas is a gift that the internet offers us all. Having the time and space to indulge in exploration is a time I cherished for myself.”
IN HER EARBUDS
“I have been listening to a lot of Joss Stone lately. She radiates joy, happiness, and soulful energy. Her sultry, sexy voice makes me smile and pushes me to a new creative mindset. I admire that she has been a sensation since she was 13, and is still standing strong as a female artist today. Some may call her rebellious, but I just see her as a free spirit that can be at peace with singing barefoot to thousands on tour while radiating lightness and peace. Her simplistic and gritty lyrics create an energy that is infectious. Some of my favorite songs are “Put Your Hands On Me” and “Super Duper Love” with her latest release of “Walk With Me” being a good reminder to support each other for we are better together than divided.”
ON HER NIGHTSTAND
“Malcolm Gladwell’s Talking to Strangers. The idea of why things are the way they are is fascinating to me. Malcolm takes seemingly non-related issues and weaves them together to make sense of human patterns, perceptions, and social science. His methodology is to look at issues from all sides while encouraging you to open your frame of reference and challenge your assumptions, instead of taking things at face value for there is always more to the story. I believe if someone makes you question, piques your curiosity, and pushes you to ask questions they have made a difference in your life and that is how Malcolm Gladwell grabs your attention. Talking to Strangers is his latest book that uses the same framework and analysis but is slightly darker and relevant to the times we are living in. Take the challenge, read the book, and open a few doors—you never know where they will lead.”
