Dr. Christina K. Anderson is a board-certified cardiologist, specializing in interventional and structural cardiology. Having received rigorous training at several institutions across the country, she brings invaluable experience to the Northwestern Medicine Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute. Dr. Anderson commonly treats heart attacks, blockages in the arteries of the heart, and valve disorders such as aortic stenosis or mitral regurgitation. Because her procedures are performed with a minimally invasive approach, recovery times tend to be much quicker for her patients, often expediting a return to normalcy. Notably, this also allows Dr. Anderson to offer therapeutic treatment options for elderly patients or others who are not candidates for open heart surgery. “We are able to offer the most cutting-edge procedures with the access to the best equipment and tools, while utilizing a multi-disciplinary heart team approach,” she shares. In addition to procedures, she also provides comprehensive preventative care to her patients. “I believe early recognition and establishment of care with a cardiologist is crucial – heart disease remains the No. 1 killer of adults in the U.S.,” she says. “The best way to treat cardiovascular disease is to prevent it from ever developing.”
“Women comprise about 4 percent of interventional cardiologists. Therefore, my inspiration comes from all the pioneers in the field who came before me and laid the groundwork for me to be successful,” says Dr. Anderson. Having grown up in Saint Louis, she’s a native of the Midwest and fell in love with Chicago, deciding it was the place to stay and establish her practice. Crediting her many mentors in the field, she says, “My favorite thing about being an early career physician has been incorporating their greatness into my own practice.”
