CHARTING NEW HORIZONS

MICHELLE STREIT, an OWL recipient for Barrington Commerce, is revolutionizing water recreation. As co-founder of Barrington Boat Club, she makes luxury boating joyfully accessible on Fox River and nearby lakes, offering brand-new boat rentals with bespoke services. Expanding her vision, Streit now provides retro boat rentals, watersports equipment, and a beach bar in McHenry and her latest projects include entertainment at Fox River Grove marina and a 1920s-themed wine and whiskey bar in Cary, blending vintage charm with modern fun.

Most rewarding part of what you do? Knowing that we offer our members an amazing summer on the water so close to home that also benefits their social and emotional well-being is by far the most rewarding part of this business. They can unplug and reconnect with family and friends while immersed in Mother Nature. Psychologists say being on the water can make us feel calmer, increase well-being, and boost creativity—it’s called “The Blue State of Mind.”

How should women support other women? Women should be each other’s biggest fans. Supporting each other creates a network of empowerment where women can share experiences, insights, and advice. This solidarity helps build confidence and resilience in navigating challenges unique to women in business. We are always better together, regardless of our industry, and we have so much to learn from one another. I am incredibly grateful for the various groups of women in my life and their continued support.

Definition of success? To me, the definition of success is the combination of personal fulfillment, financial achievements, impact on others, and the ability to balance work and life effectively. I am proud to have built a business that pursues my passion while supporting my family and bringing joy to so many local residents through boating and entertainment.
