Casselyn Tertell began her career in real estate in 2008 and never looked back. “I grew up around real estate and loved it. I knew the time and energy a successful career entailed and still felt drawn to its appeal,” explains Tertell, who now runs The Casselyn Group and is a coteam leader for the Signature Homes Group at Compass. “I pride myself on my ability to respond efficiently and make my clients consistently feel like a top priority, both during and after their transaction.” Today, Tertell is an award-winning managing broker with credentials that include being an Accredited Buyers Representative (ABR); Certified Negotiation Consultant (CNC); Graduate Realtor ® Institute (GRI); Short Sale and Foreclosure Resource Specialist (SFR); Sellers Representative Specialist (SRS); NAR 30 Under 30; Chicago Magazine Five Star Agent for 12 years; and a Real Estate Divorce Specialist.
What’s most rewarding about real estate?
Every day I get to help people find their perfect home. What is perfect to one person is not the same for another, so it is always changing, challenging, and exciting.
What do you think separates you from other real estate professionals in the business today?
I am very personable, advocate for my clients, and try to be as available as possible to them.
How do you leverage marketing to differentiate yourself from the competition?
I have definitely started leaning more into social media, as that is where many people spend their time. I also have a very good admin team behind me who handles my mailers, website, and social media, all with the same goal—to help my clients sell and buy homes.
How do you win a listing?
I give a detailed listing breakdown so the seller knows what to expect as the transaction progresses, listen to the clients input to find out what their ideal outcome is, and am honest with their home’s value.
What are your top staging tips?
Less is more. You’re selling a home—not your home—depersonalizing is important. I work closely with a local staging company who does an excellent job.
