“It is an exciting time for aesthetics,” says Dr. Jessie Cheung, dermatologist and owner of DuPage Dermatology and Laser Center. Dr. Cheung is known for bringing the latest and most effective treatment options to her patients, and she has zeroed in on new research for treating aging with stem cell and fat transfer techniques.
What makes these new treatments so special, she says, is that they use the body’s natural healing processes to produce long-lasting results. “This includes the newest techniques for treating hair loss using PRP as well as stem cells,” she says.
When it comes to new technologies, you can feel confident with Dr. Cheung. She’s board-certified in dermatology, and fellowship-trained in a myriad of laser techniques and minimally-invasive procedures.
“And that training continues, not just for me, but also my staff,” she says. “I frequently teach, and we participate in seminars for cutting-edge rejuvenation techniques. Second, I take a comprehensive total wellness approach to healthy aging. Optimize your hormones so you feel your best while looking your best.”
Dr. Cheung has mastered the science of dermatology and cosmetic treatments, and she has mastered the service, too, with a concierge approach.
“A visit to a physician’s office can be stressful, and we want to relieve that stress just as a concierge at a luxury hotel would relieve the stress of travel,” she says. “The concierge approach assures the patient has an enjoyable experience as well as the best medical care, tailored to meet specific goals.” She works to develop a long-term, therapeutic relationship with every patient by developing an individualized treatment plan. Another interesting difference at Dr. Cheung’s practice is her service options for men, which rival what she offers women. Her office has a men’s luxury lounge, where her male patients get to relax. It’s decorated with what you might find in a fun hangout spot—with Bears and Blackhawks jerseys and football helmets. It’s also has a fully stocked bar to take the edge off. “We want men to feel comfortable and at home,” she says.
When asked how dermatological needs differ for men and women as they age, Dr. Cheung says the similarities outweigh differences. “Everyone wants to look good, but my men have thicker skin, prefer a simple regimen, and don’t mind some downtime, while most of my women want a slow, gentle approach to achieving healthy skin.”
Winter is an especially important time to keep skin healthy, says Dr. Cheung. Her No. 1 piece of advice during the winter? Use sunscreen.
“Many feel that sunscreen is important only during the summer months, but sunscreen is important all year ‘round. It is the single most important thing you can do to protect your skin and is the foundation of any skincare regimen.”
She also says as the weather gets colder, you could add a cool mist humidifier to your bedroom and avoid taking showers that are too hot and too long that can dry out your skin.
“And don’t forget to take extra Vitamin D. Research shows that optimal levels are important not just for our skin and hair, but also for our immune system,” she says. “Your skin reflects your internal health.”
