Lake Forest Open Lands Association has been the diligent and forever stewards of these exceptional and irreplaceable lands for 52 years, working every day to protect, champion, and restore nature for all to enjoy.

Its history is recorded on the land itself. Through careful habitat restoration and stewardship, these globally significant open lands—prairie, savanna, wetlands, lakeshore ravine—are the rare, defining characteristics of our region.

“Lake Forest Open Lands is what makes our community the special area that it is and will continue to be,” says board member Paula Preschlack.

But as we close a decade and embark on 2020, Lake Forest Opens Lands Association invites the community to be a part of building a stronger and more secure future for nature.

“As we celebrate all that has been achieved, we must look toward the future,” explains Lake Forest Open Lands President John Sentell. “Our work is not done.”

The Legacy Campaign is a $15 million fundraising effort to protect our lands and advance Open Lands’ mission. With your investment, they will preserve new landscapes, restore and care for existing habitats, expand outreach to engage everyone in nature, and secure all that has been accomplished in perpetuity.

“Our vision for the future is bold, ambitious, and requires many helping hands,” Sentell adds. “Embracing nature has always been core to who we are as a community. We invite everyone to embark on this next chapter by our side.”
