Dr. Ramzi Daibis and Dr. Tamara Oweis have been practicing orthodontics together for eight years. It has always been a dream for the husband-and-wife team to own their own practice, and early last year, they started to make that dream a reality.
The couple and their two children live in Hinsdale, so they wanted to look for a space and good location for a practice in the area. Their search took them to Clarendon Hills—a great community, very close to where they live—which interestingly and conveniently enough did not have an orthodontics practice. They decided this would be the place to open their new practice, Band & Wire Orthodontics.
“It was not easy to find an appropriate location in Clarendon Hills.” Dr. Daibis says. The location they eventually chose was a place almost everyone in town knows—the former location of Scott’s Pet Shop at 433 Ogden Avenue that had been sitting vacant for seven years. “We immediately saw the potential,” Dr. Daibis adds.
Band & Wire celebrated its official grand opening on June 25, offering orthodontic services to children and adults that include metal braces, ceramic braces, Invisalign, and dental whitening. Both doctors are board-certified orthodontists who are always trying to stay on top of the latest trends and services available to patients. And that’s what they will be delivering at their new practice.
A lot of time and energy went into renovating and updating the office building, making significant interior and exterior improvements. Inside are two consultation rooms, four dental chairs in an open-bay setting, and a separate suite for patients who prefer privacy. There is also a state-of-the-art sterilization center which utilizes medical grade sterilization of all dental instruments. Additionally, the practice offers a photo studio with a professional style camera, photography lighting and a backdrop. “This is not only to take before and after pictures, but also to capture special moments in our patients journey with us. We will offer those photos to our patients as souvenirs to remind them of their time at Band & Wire.” Dr. Oweis says. “We have plans to expand the number of chairs and space for practice in the near future.” Dr Daibis adds.
The practice features technologies that help make the overall experience better for patients: two iTero 3D scanners to scan the teeth rather than using the uncomfortable and often dreaded dental impressions. There is also the “Green Machine”; a low-dose 3D Cone-Beam x-ray machine that takes three-dimensional mini-CT scans of the entire head for diagnosis and treatment of complex cases. “We as parents care deeply about protecting our patients from unnecessary radiation, for this reason we chose this particular unit because it minimizes radiation exposure for patients without compromising the diagnostic quality of its images.” Dr. Oweis says.
The doctors certainly have a lot of experience with adolescents and teenagers, but they have also practiced in the city for a number of years, where they also treated hundreds of adult patients. “Adult orthodontics is definitely becoming more popular and probably 40 percent or more of my patients have been adults and that’s an area of expertise I have enjoyed.” Dr. Daibis says. “What makes adult cases special is the additional treatment complexities that are often present: missing teeth, extra dental work, dental implants and possible need for surgery. Most orthodontic offices cater to kids—even the office design. We wanted to make sure that people in the area know we can treat their children, but that we can focus on adult patients as well.” he adds.
In addition to braces, Band & Wire Orthodontics offers Invisalign, the clear aligner system, as a treatment option. “We realize the demand and need for a cosmetic alternative to braces that is less visible and possibly more comfortable. Invisalign is a very effective system that can be used to treat kids and adults alike and it will definitely a big part of our practice,” Dr Daibis says. “During the consultation appointment, we provide a thorough diagnosis and smile analysis and present the best treatment options to patients. We try to guide the patient or parent to the option that best fits their needs and lifestyle.” Dr Oweis says.
Band & Wire Orthodontics offers complimentary consultations with regular special offers. “Our first special is free in-office Zoom whitening with orthodontic treatment and if a child is receiving the orthodontic treatment, the parent can take advantage of the free whitening for themselves!” Dr. Daibis says. “We also care about our patient convenience which is why we are structuring our business hours to be flexible for everyone, opening early and staying late on some days as well as Saturdays when feasible,” adds Dr. Oweis.
“We are also particularly proud and excited about our website: bandandwire.com” Dr. Daibis says. “It is 100 percent customized with a very interactive and visual content that we wrote ourselves. It is linked to our pages on social media platforms on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter where we try to stay active. The website also features a journal with regularly updated topics pertaining to orthodontics as well as local community news. Most importantly, we will be adding the ability to book appointments online directly from our website, hopefully this fall.” he says.
You’ll probably see the doctors at local events like Uniquely Thursdays in Hinsdale and Dancin’ in the Street in Clarendon Hills, because this isn’t just a practice for them. This is a long-term investment in a business and a community.
“Our vision for the practice is to better smiles and change lives,” the doctors say. “We’ve invested a lot of effort and time into this practice. We want it to be one of the best orthodontic facilities in the Chicago area.”
