A Season Of Change

If there is one thing that Kim Alden has learned in her storied real estate career, it’s that timing is everything.
This past February, Alden and her entire real estate team, left the firm she’d spent 15 years with to join forces with Compass, a real estate company that offers state-of-the art marketing and technology to its agents.
“Some people thought I was crazy to make this kind of career change,” explains Alden—a premier luxury and residential real estate agent in the northwest suburbs—who had occupied the top-seller spot at her previous company for more than a decade. “But I was ready for a new challenge—and so was my team. The time was right.”
Compass is a national real estate firm with global reach that was founded in 2012 and boasts of more than 20,000 dynamic agents coast to coast. Its differentiator in the real estate market is its technological platform that allows agents to pull all of the information they need into one place.
“Compass founder Robert Reffkin was a real estate agent,” Alden says, “and it would make him crazy to pull some information from here, some from there—it was all over the place. He hired the best in the technology world from Tesla, Amazon, and Zillow to build a single platform that could collect all of the information an agent would ever need.”
Alden says it has been a game changer in working with clients, who nearly all begin their real estate search online.
“We can now make side-by-side comparisons of properties, so clients can easily see how one home differs from another,” she adds. “In our business, the internet—and using it smartly—are the keys to delivering for our buyers and sellers.”
Compass’ marketing know-how and technological advantage is surely working for Alden and her team of 21 agents. In March, they had 48 homes go under contract.
“Everyone is flourishing in our new office,” she says. “We’re working hard, but we’re working more efficiently with the entire Compass company behind us. They made our transition from one office to another seamless.”
Alden says she feels refreshed and with some extra pep in her step these days—making the opportunities in front of her feel endless.
“It’s wonderful to be at this point in my career and feel the same excitement and joy I did when I started,” she says. “People say I look lighter—and I feel that, too. I’m looking forward to onboarding new team members soon. There’s a lot of work to be done and this is a great place to do it.”
