A Glowing Agent

Glo Rolighed may not have taken the traditional path to becoming a star at @properties and one of the most successful North Shore realtors, but there is no doubt that she was always destined to shine.
After receiving a degree in voice and theatre from Northwestern University, she worked as a lead singer for three years on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and then for three more years behind the scenes at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
“My background in theater definitely makes me a people person,” Rolighed says. When speaking of her current profession, she’s nothing if not passionate. “I love it. It’s so much fun.”
Rolighed thrives on connection and gets energy from the people around her. This is perhaps why she sincerely says that she has become friends with every one of her clients.
After working at the Lyric, Rolighed attended DePaul University and received an MBA. A close friend who worked in the industry suggested she should try real estate and Rolighed has never looked back.
Her twenty-plus years of experience in the business, including residential sales, consulting, and relocation services, has evolved from living in the communities she serves. From Lake Forest to Chicago along the North Shore, she has experienced first-hand the nuances of these wonderful towns, villages, and cities. “After all, a home is more than the walls that surround it, but an experience— parks and playgrounds, restaurants and retreats—every town has a unique offering.”
“My family has lived in this area for five generations. I really know the neighborhoods and the things that make those places special and unique. I’ve watched things grow and evolve in so many ways. This background in the community is useful in helping my clients find their perfect place,” Rolighed says.
She loves “how the North Shore communities take these big environments and make them instantly small; where you can go into a restaurant and people recognize you, or enter a coffee shop and the server knows your order, or visit local businesses and they customize everything for you. It’s just that small sense of community and people are so nice here.”
Her number one favorite thing about the area? “Lake Michigan. It is such a treasure and most people don’t realize that the lake is as large as it is.”
Rolighed feels blessed to be able to gain insight and information from her mom “who is an interior designer and arguably, an interior architect. I learned a lot about the architecture, interior design, and staging business from my mom.”
It is no surprise that Rolighed is very involved locally and serves on the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Women’s Board, the Women’s Board of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Garden Guild of Winnetka, and as president of the Board of Directors at Piven Theatre Workshop in Evanston, to name a few.
Rolighed has two daughters, both of whom also participated in theater in high school. “They were leading ladies, actresses, singers, and dancers. One of the most amazing things was watching them get their first roles on the stage. To see their transformations from a personality standpoint and how their confidence just came out of nowhere, was such an incredible inspiration. And you know, I look at that and I think every single person in this world should take an improv class or jump on the stage once in their lives because if you do, the skillset you gain is totally applicable to any single job you will have in your life.”
