Its offering of highly coveted European antiques and treasures, decor, and tabletop items is sourced by Karen Abell who took a moment to answer a few questions with Country.
An indulgence you wouldn’t give up?
Having three houses that I love in Naples, Chicago, and Tuscany.
Last thing you bought and loved?
A stunning Italian business secretary, with deep would tones and a turquoise interior paint.
The best way to spend $20?
A cappuccino and an almond croissant from La Fournette—down the street from the Chicago store.
The last item of clothing added to your wardrobe?
A vintage leopard coat I found in a consignment store in Naples, Florida.
Most loved art exhibit, museum, performance, or gallery?
Field Museum 1893 World’s Fair Columbian Exposition Exhibit. My family came to Chicago through the World’s Fair. I have the beautiful glass bells that my great grandfather blew for the fair in my home in Chicago.
Preferred way to take a note?
Handwritten notes. My go-to pen is a Needle Point TUL black pen.
Preferred mode of carry?
When perusing the markets abroad, I favor a cross body for the convenience.
Most beloved piece of home decor?
An antique writing secretary. It was newly added to my home collection in Naples, but things do change and I am sure there will be another new “favorite” very soon!
What’s the best thing about running a business?
Happy customers.
Favorite place to source items for the store?
Italy, Belgium, Sweden, France… the list goes on.
