The Max Schewitz Foundation
Maxtravaganza, the Max Schewitz Foundation’s largest annual fund-raiser, was held on June 18 at Lake Forest Sportscars. More than 350 people attended the poignant event, and around $100,000 was raised for the continuation of the Foundation’s Screens for Teens Program. The program, run by Mary Beth Schewitz and her team, provides free EKG testing for young adults in Chicagoland schools and identifies those at a possible risk for sudden cardiac death, the condition from which the Schewitz family lost their son, Max. To date, the program has provided more than 18,300 free EKG tests, and 238 of those results required further evaluation. Many students have been found to have potentially life-threatening, but thankfully correctable, cardiac conditions. Dr. Sandy Goldberg of NBC5 was the emcee for the evening, and David Goodman of Auction Results handled the live auction. Chef John des Rosiers from Inovasi in Lake Bluff designed the menu for the successful evening.
