Live from the Red Carpet with Ellen Stirling
Local beauties Amy DiTomasso, Samara Silvester, Monique Kraft, Allison Cekay, and Mia Waligora modeled bold color, waist-high slits, and dramatic shoulders.
The Oscar goes to Ellen for accurately forecasting an evening of old Hollywood glamour. (She gets extra credit for selecting the dress Allison bore, as it was the exact dress Ana Farris wore on the red carpet. Of course, we think Allison wore it best!)
Forest & Bluff caught up with Ellen first thing this morning to get her take on last evening’s fashion hits and misses.
Forest & Bluff: If you could give an Oscar to last night’s best dressed, who would it be?
Ellen Stirling: I loved Michelle Williams’ coral chiffon gown and Jessica Chastain’s embroidered black and gold dress. In my book, they tied for first as the night’s best dressed.
F&B: Whose styling could have used some help?
ES: Rooney Mara’s dress was dramatic in its ghostliness, although it did have a pretty back. Glenn Close looked dated in the forest green gown with the jacket. The color of Viola Davis’ dress was perfect on her but it was too busy. Too many ruffles. Too many sequins. Too busy overall.
F&B: What stood out to you last night as you watched the actresses enter the Kodak Theater?
ES: I was surprised there weren’t many short dresses last night, especially since it’s such a big trend for spring. Is Hollywood that traditional that everyone chose long gowns? I also thought it was interesting that so many women chose to wear dresses with sleeves. And, this isn’t dress related, but I saw a number of women wearing bangs. Those really have to go!
F&B: If you could choose to wear a gown from last evening, which one would it be?
ES: I would love to wear either of my best-dressed picks—Michelle Williams’ or Jessica Chastain’s. I could wear Michelle’s to the Botanic Gardens party in June and Jessica’s to the opening of the Lyric Opera in the fall.
