Fashion Week is one of the most prominent — and stylish — events that happens twice a year starting in New York, wrapping up in Paris. More importantly, it's a way for us stylists to know what's "IN" and what's "OUT" for the upcoming seasons. Fall fashion week has always been my favorite. Fall allows me to layer and showcase more of the beautiful things I adore so much. I followed the New York and London collections very closely to bring the crème de la crème of fashion and also to let you know what's to come in Fall 2010–2011!
Boy–Meets–Girl
I noticed a lot of key trends that will transition from spring into the cool fall months. The Power Suit and the Boy–Meets–Girl look appeared strong on the runways. This trend first grabbed our attention in 2009 with the "boyfriend" blazer, and evolved into 2010 with a sleek and skinny feel. Suits are much more structured, and pants are not the harem pants we saw in 2009. This time try a pencil skirt or a nice skinny trouser. Also, a hot look was the trouse itself with a cool satin blouse. Trust me, you won't feel a bit like a boy!
Fabulous Fur
We North Shore ladies get quite chilly in the fall winter months. Not to mention the transition can easily slip its way into spring. We need something to keep us toasty and looking fab! I love fur, may have something to do with my Russian roots, but I do. Fur was a big hit for 2010–2011; it showed up on the runway in all–different forms: bags, vests, boleros, boots, hats, and trims. Nothing reminded you less of your mother's old, long fur coat. This looks is updated, modern, and goes with virtually anything in your closet.
The Gown
The gown is always a classic. With the red carpet being a runway in itself, the gown is a key piece for every fashionista. Be it at a wedding, a charity event, a movie premier, or the opera, a gorgeous gown can make or break a pretty woman. Some of my favorite gowns came in darker shades of burgundy, blue, and black. All you need is a simple clutch; these gowns are so stunning you don't need to drape yourself in diamonds. Simple, classic, elegant.
Power Print
Another key aspect of the shows was print! Now this look isn't for the faint of heart; the prints are bright, bold, futuristic, and arty. I adore this look. It screams, "Fun lady on the loose!" Try one of these little numbers paired with a leather jacket or a fun cropped fur bolero and booties.
Layered Looks
As I've said before, I love to layer! If you're a fashion girl like me, you love to pile on the goods. Not only does it keep you warm, but it's also a great "Oh, I just threw this on" type of look. This look is great for the mamas like me. Running around with kids is exhausting, and going in and out of cars to parks, stores, and play dates, you really never know what to wear. Here are some great ideas and looks – so effortless and chic!
