This fall, the Boys & Girls Club of Chicago (BGCC) will host its third annual golf invitational at the North Shore Country Club in Glenview. The tournament, which has traditionally been a local favorite, will begin at 10 a.m. on September 20. After check-in, warm-ups, and a shotgun start, teams of four players will compete in a best-ball format for the title of tournament champions. The afternoon will include lunch at noon, cocktails at 4 p.m., and a dinner and awards ceremony at 5 p.m. Participants will also have the chance to interact with Chicago Bulls legend Bob Love, who is serving as the honorary chair for this year’s invitational and who will also be competing in the tournament.
All proceeds from the golf invitational will benefit BGCC, which has 18 clubs and serves 13,000 children in the Chicago area. BGCC provides after-school programs for children that focus on their social, educational, cultural, and leadership development. The clubs serve a diverse group of children in less-affluent parts of the city, and provide a safe after-school environment with constructive activities. Last year, the BGCC Golf
Invitational raised $82,000 to support its programs, and board members are hoping to raise $150,000 at this year’s tournament.
Because the tournament is one of the few local charitable events to feature an outdoor, sports-oriented setting, many people look forward to the occasion. “From the minute you arrive to the end of the day, you’ve got a smile on your face,” BGCC Vice President of the Guild Board Molly Carroll says. “And at the end of the day, you know when you go home that you’ve done the right thing to continue to raise money and focus for the BGCC.”
