After earning a degree in architecture, Julie Green Marcus started out doing model homes and hotel interior design for Adam’s Mark Hotels in St. Louis. She then moved into design work of her own, working with an investor who bought homes, remodeled them with her expertise, and then “flipped” them. Living in Arizona at the time, Green Marcus decided that she might as well get her own license to flip homes.
“I’m great at finding deals and under-market properties,” she says. “And I like helping people.” Green Marcus relocated to Highland Park 10 years ago, got her Illinois broker’s license, and bought, renovated, and sold homes as an independent broker until 2009 when she joined @properties.
“I want to give my clients A-plus marketing,” she says. And @properties makes it easy, providing excellent marketing support for its brokers, not to mention its advanced Internet capabilities and wide-ranging exposure downtown, on the North Shore, and across the Chicago suburbs.
“I will go over and above for my clients,” says Green Marcus. “Whether I’m helping them lease or buy or sell a multimillion dollar purchase. My design background gives me the unique ability and competitive edge to contribute ideas on making a home look more appealing for buyers.”
Green Marcus moved to the North Shore 10 years ago, but she’s got a firm footing in the Chicago real estate market as well. She and her husband own a 45-foot Sea Ray docked at Burnham Harbor that they live on part-time in the summer. They love to entertain on the boat, often inviting clients for an afternoon on Lake Michigan.
Green Marcus has helped friends and other clients buy and sell properties on the Gold Coast, as well as leasing and selling commercial real estate downtown. And she still has connections in Arizona, often helping North Shore residents find a retirement home there.
“It’s such a great time to buy,” she says. “Even if you have to sell something, lease your property and be a landlord for a few years, or have means to make a second purchase and hang on to what you have, real estate is a good place to put your money.”
In her personal life, Green Marcus keeps busy raising four children. In addition to her passion for boating, she loves to bike ride and spend time at Glencoe Beach.
When it comes down to it, Green Marcus relies on some basic principles of good business and strong client service. “I put my clients first, and I work well with other agents,” she says. “I’m never too busy to help someone new who needs help, and no job is too small. I call everyone back. And I absolutely love real estate.”
