The Occasion: Playing off the über-popular television show, the Cancer Wellness Center held its Annual Benefit at the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Chicago entitled “Dancing with Our Stars.”
The Details: The evening featured a dance contest with local celebrities Bob Avellini, Judy Markey, Michael P. McAuliffe, and Bonnie Schoenberg, all of whom practiced for weeks before the event with their partners from Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Buffalo Grove.
The Highlights: Guests got into the groove themselves after dinner and the wine auction, dancing to the sounds of Gentlemen of Leisure.
The Final Tally: The evening raised more than $400,000, which goes directly toward operating costs of the Northbrook-based Cancer Wellness Center, an organization that provides psychosocial support and education to those affected by cancer.
