Gone are the days of uniform décor and predictable design. Is there anyone out there who only adorns their home in one style, from one genre? Recognizing the trend and realizing its potential for a larger audience, the Women’s Board of the Winnetka Community House introduces their newest show, Antiques + Modernism Winnetka, from October 22–24. The much-hyped show will be a fusion of the former Winnetka Antiques Show and Modernism Show, and will offer periods of design from the 17th century to the mid-20th century, all under one venerable roof.
“By combining the two shows, we are offering show patrons the most esteemed dealers in the industry, both antique and modern,” says Pam Westin, who co-chairs the event with fellow Winnetka resident Dania Leemputte. “The growing trend in home design is to mix old with new, one style with another, so the combination of antiques with modernism makes complete sense.”
And what a combination it is promised to be. With more than 60 dealers, Antiques + Modernism Winnetka is keeping its standards high by only selecting dealers from North America and Europe with a wide range of expertise and a selection of merchandise for use both inside and outside the home. Offering everything from furniture, jewelry, rugs, and lighting, to Native American artifacts, Asian antiques, and garden décor, the dealers will truly offer goods suited to each taste level. Combined with the remarkable selection of wares and the amicable layout of the Winnetka Community House itself, it will be difficult to leave empty-handed.
To get a jump on all those rare finds, the Women’s Board is offering a Preview Party on the evening of October 21, sponsored by Sheridan Road. “By attending the Preview Party, you are getting a first look at the items available exclusively by the dealers at the show,” says Dania. As the Antique and Modernism Shows of the past have demonstrated, there is a formidable run on some of the most valuable pieces. “For the avid collector,” says Pam, “that is reason enough to attend the Preview Party.”
Proceeds from the event will go toward the Winnetka Community House, a beloved staple on the North Shore which depends on its own residents for support.
Antiques + Modernism Winnetka is Friday, October 22 through Sunday, October 24. Tickets are $15 per person, for a three-day pass. Tickets for the Preview Party on Thursday, October 21 are $125 per person (if purchased before October 14) and include a three-day pass. Tickets for all events are available at the Winnetka Community House, by calling 847-446-0537, or visiting thewinnetkashow.com.
