SHE Has Everything

Walking into SHE Boutique in Highland Park feels more like visiting an art gallery than a North Shore shop. The asymmetrical, minimalist interior boasts stark, white walls with sleek racks of clothes meticulously spread out for the customer’s ultimate viewing pleasure.
The difference between SHE and an art exhibit is that shoppers can touch, hold, try on, and
eventually wear these unique pieces, instead of admiring works of art from afar. The boutique’s atmosphere is creative and inspiring, a place where shoppers are likely to purchase an outfit and plan an entire day or night around the look.
“I try to build a dream closet of things I love,” says SHE Boutique owner Nicolette Prpa. “I have an intensity for it.”
Aside from her own passion for all things glamorous and cutting-edge, Nicolette knows exactly who her customers are. “I buy for fashion-forward women who take risks,” Nicolette says. “I buy for the girl who wants to be on trend, yet sophisticated, beautiful, and classic.”
This description rings true for the fashionable styles along the North Shore, which is why SHE has been the place to shop among women of all ages since its opening four years ago. “I wanted to create a space for mothers and daughters to come together, shop, and have fun,” Nicolette says.
SHE carries more than 150 lines at any point in time, and price points range from $60 to $4,000. Whether a customer is searching for a couture gown for an event or a brilliant accessory to spice up an old outfit, the options are endless.
Through meticulous branding, exquisite taste, and a focus on customer service, SHE Boutique has come out on top even at a time when shoppers are more cautious than ever. “We are friendly,” Nicolette says. “We take out the boutique bitch and try to break the stereotype.” Regardless if a client is indulging in a much-deserved shopping spree or just picking up an LBD, they are treated with the same amount of pampering. SHE provides on-site tailoring, home deliveries, custom-made looks, and is even willing to find pieces for customers that aren’t sold in their store.
Nicolette is a hands-on owner, but relies on her hardworking staff to help execute the business’ demands. “Most people wonder how you can have an intensity for clothes because they are just clothes,” Nicolette says. “But we take it very seriously here. This is not a part-time job for any one of my employees. We will answer e-mails and orders at 2 a.m. if we have to.”
Considering that SHE does 50 percent of its business online, it’s no wonder that Nicolette and her staff take retail so seriously. “We love dealing with the web,” she says. “Have you ever walked into a boutique where every sales person has a computer they’re working on?” This seemingly small North Shore boutique fills orders all over the world, providing trends of the moment, as well as pieces that are meant to last.
Nicolette is constantly looking for new designers and new lines to meet the shop’s growing clientele. SHE Boutique’s evolving nature ensures that its clients always have a new experience, whether it’s live or virtual.
Nicolette is responsible for buying items that appeal to the quintessential North Shore woman, as well as virtual shoppers overseas. Still, Chicago’s unique style is a solid influence in Nicolette’s shop. “My favorite thing about Chicago in general is that there is a classic look you can’t get anywhere in the world,” the owner says. “You’re always guaranteed to find the Audrey Hepburn-esque style.”
SHE Boutique’s merchandise has the perfect balance between eclecticism and classicism. Regardless of individual style, there is something to suit just about everyone at SHE. “If you wear something from SHE, you’ll get stopped by someone,” Nicolette says. “That’s the SHE guarantee.”
