The Occasion: The Women’s Board hosted Ravinia’s only performance fund-raiser on a beautiful summer evening, honoring the great American composer Stephen Sondheim on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
The Scene: Beginning with drinks on the North Lawn, guests were served an elegant dinner in the Gala Marquee.
The Highlights: The star-studded performance showcased Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, George Hearn, and Michael Cerveris, with director Lonny Price and conductor Paul Gemignani leading the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a program featuring Sondheim’s greatest hits.
The VIPs: Marcie Stein and Susan Elliott served as co-chairs of the event that hosted a staggering 800 guests.
The Final Tally: An impressive $1.2 million was raised for America’s oldest not-for-profit music festival.
